Kids love the flavor of yogurt, especially when it comes in a squeeze tube covered in cartoon characters! Is it the convenient tube or the characters?
It’s neither.. its the added sugar!
Conventional yogurt contains a ton of added sugar. The leading brand that markets directly to babies, contains 9 grams in a 4 oz serving. I wonder if the benefits of yogurt outweigh the negatives of sugar? Could babies and young children learn to love foods that are not as sweet if kept on a low sugar diet in their younger years? Maybe. Seems worth a try, right?
So we are using dates again!
When just adding fruit I have found the bitterness still shines, especially with something as subtle as blueberries. The dates are the low sugar all natural fix for this problem. When trying other fruits to mix with yogurt, you may need more or less dates depending on the sugar content of the fruit you are using.
In the end, if the kids still miss the characters, get them a sticker book and let them decorate the bags themselves!
